Many parents and students feel overwhelmed just thinking about their college applications and essay(s)/personal statement. Did you know that the average student writes 15 college essays as part of their application process? What about summer planning and course selection? Letters of recommendation? Which extracurriculars should you participate in? What about SATs/ACTs? What is Early Action vs. Early Decision? There is so much to navigate and the landscape is constantly changing. Don't worry... I am here to help! I will help you make sense of the what/when/where and how of all the pieces, and help you narrow your list to schools that will be a great fit. I will walk you through what you will need to do and write, when you need to do and write it, and most importantly I will help you pick a topic (or topics), and work with you to tell a memorable story. Through the unique narrative vehicle that is the college essay, we will demonstrate to the readers on the other end (in the admissions office), what you value, what drives you and what makes you, well, YOU. This is your one opportunity to show them the person behind the numbers, and you can feel 100% confident that when all is said and done, we will have shown you in the best possible light to give you the best possible chances for admission.

While I offer full service admissions advising, I also work independently as an essay coach. There are many wonderful independent admissions counselors, but being a fantastic college counselor does not necessarily mean that person is also a great writer/writing coach. The college application process has many facets, and students will always benefit from tapping into experts that focus on specific areas. I can take an essay that you've already worked on with your regular advisor and help you bring it to the next level so that you can feel confident you are showing your very best self, and communicating to admissions officers who you are, what makes you unique, and the value that you will bring to their campus.

That's awesome! I know how difficult it can be to start the process, so if you are already working on your applications and essays - CONGRATULATIONS. We will refine, polish, tweak and edit what you have to ensure it (A) shows off your resume and writing skills, (B) lets the admissions officers get to know YOU, and (C) stands out from the thousands (!) of applications and essays admissions readers plow through every year. Believe it or not, this process can actually be FUN, and you are going to be so impressed with the final product that YOU created!

I work with students locally (Lamorinda and surrounding area), as well as nationally. I've found the most success working with students via Zoom and/or FaceTime, as we can see each other and share a screen. This also allows the student to work from their most comfortable space (often their bedroom). Comfort and ease is key when fostering creativity and productivity. I also make myself available to work with students in person when possible and desired. I offer two options: hourly (for essay coaching only), or as part of a full service advising package that begins in the spring of sophomore or junior year (but can begin earlier if needed).
